Opening statements began Monday, May 12, in the federal trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who faces serious charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson detailed one particularly disturbing incident during opening remarks. She alleged that during a so-called “freak off”—described by prosecutors as an orchestrated sex event involving coercion—Combs directed a male sex worker to urinate in the mouth of singer Cassie Ventura (born Casandra Ventura). Ventura reportedly told investigators she “felt like she was choking” during the ordeal.
Prosecutors allege these “freak offs” were elaborate and exploitative sexual encounters involving both female and male participants, some of whom were allegedly manipulated or forced to take part.
In addition to these claims, the indictment cites surveillance footage from a Los Angeles hotel in 2016 that appears to show Combs physically assaulting Ventura. She is expected to testify under her own name during the trial.
During jury selection, potential jurors were questioned about their familiarity with several public figures, including Kanye West, Michael B. Jordan, Mike Myers, and Kid Cudi.
