President Trump Orders Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Pope Francis
President Donald Trump has ordered all American flags to be flown at half-staff starting Monday in honor of Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88.
The announcement followed a message Trump posted on Truth Social, where he wrote: “Rest in Peace, Pope Francis! May God bless him and all who loved him!”
Speaking from the White House, Trump said, “I just signed an executive order putting the flags of our country—federal and state—at half-staff in honor of Pope Francis. He was a good man, worked hard, and loved the world. It’s an honor to do that.”
The directive also extends to all U.S. embassies, consulates, and military facilities abroad.
Trump made the announcement during his appearance at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll. He also reflected on the importance of Easter, saying, “Easter is special. It’s one of our favorite times of the year, a time to honor Jesus Christ. And we’re going to honor Him powerfully—not just now, but throughout our lives.”
He added, “We’re bringing religion back to America. That’s why you’re seeing the energy and the spirit across the country—it’s a movement.”
