Sharon Lokedi Smashes Course Record at Boston Marathon 2025; John Korir Takes Men’s Title
Kenya’s Sharon Lokedi delivered a historic performance at the 2025 Boston Marathon, obliterating the women’s course record by over two minutes. With a fierce finishing kick, Lokedi crossed the line in a blazing 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 22 seconds.
Locked in a thrilling battle with two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri through the final mile, Lokedi surged ahead as they entered downtown Boston. Gradually pulling away, she claimed victory by 19 seconds. The win marks a triumphant redemption after her second-place finish last year.
"It feels so good," Lokedi told ESPN2. "It was tough, and I toughed it out."
In the men’s race, fellow Kenyan John Korir made a decisive move at Mile 20, breaking away from the lead pack to secure the win in 2:04:45. The victory adds to his growing legacy following his 2024 Chicago Marathon win. Notably, John and his older brother, Wesley Korir — the 2012 Boston champion — now stand as the first siblings to ever win the Boston Marathon. Wesley was waiting at the finish line to celebrate his brother’s triumph.
"I had promised Wesley that I was going to win," John said on ESPN2.
Team USA’s Conner Mantz had a strong showing, staying with the leaders for much of the race and finishing fourth in 2:05:08 — the best performance by an American man at Boston since 2018. Defending champion Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia was forced to drop out after the halfway point.
